Ipernity is a social website that lets users share their images, videos, audio clips and other content in one place. Users can add all their items and share them with friends, family, colleagues and fans. The site is also designed to help professionals and creative types promote themselves by displaying their work. Authors, artists, musicians, photographers and others can build a portfolio of content on Ipernity and use it to show others what they can do. A built in search bar lets users search for specific topics and refine the results by selecting docs, blogs, groups or members. The site also utilizes a tagging system that lets users browse items by theme or topic. The current tag collection is extremely diverse, including everything from nature to London, 2012 and black and white photography.Show more screenshots »
Ipernity was first conceived in May of 2004. The application was intended to fulfill a niche that would let users combine all their content, including different types of media, into one share-able location. Today, Ipernity has lived up to that promise with a list of helpful features and plenty of ways to customize the user’s pages. Many have praised Ipernity for its detailed features, which allow for more information to be posted along with images, videos and audio clips.
There are many places a user can upload and share content on the web. Many sites prefer to focus on one or two types of media, such as photographs and videos. Few let the user upload everything and display it all together on a page. Ipernity offers just that, a way for users to combine their photos, artwork, music, audio clips, writing and anything else they want to add into one convenient location.
Ipernity has a professional feel to it that keeps the color scheme and visual elements low key so the user’s content remains the focus of each page. There is almost no clutter and the user can easily navigate around. The search bar is presented right on the homepage, making it easier for newcomers to find specific topics or users. The look of each user’s page varies based on what they have put on it and how they decided to organize the content. For the most part, each page is well organized and easy to read.
A new user can register for an Ipernity account by clicking the blue “Sign Up for Free” link in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. The form on the next page asks the user to supply a first and last name, email address, password, country location, date of birth and gender. After entering a security code, the user can click the button below the form to finish. The user is automatically logged in after successfully submitting the form. A small box in the upper, right hand corner of the form page invites the user to sign in with a Google, Facebook, Open ID, Yahoo, Windows Live or Orange account.
Anyone can create a free Ipernity account. Every new user is given access to a free account after completing the registration form linked on the homepage. A free account can upload up to 200 MBs per month and can add up to 90 MBs of HD video content. Serious users can upgrade to a Pro account which costs €23.88 per year or €43.78 for two years. The Pro account includes unlimited uploads, HD videos of up to 500 MBs each, unlimited storage, no advertisements, a Pro profile icon and the ability to download originals.
Ipernity is ideal for anyone who wants to showcase their work online. Users can upload images, photographs, audio clips, videos and other types of media as well as text content. The user can decide what kind of media to display on their page and how they want it to appear. Ipernity lets users create a virtual portfolio based on their work. Professionals can use the application as another place to showcase their skills while others can put together a collection of content they want to share with friends and family.
